5 Update from 21 Sept TTG working session 5 Vision and the technology scope in Vision Difference between our technology scope and what is in Vision Prioritized and discussed this w/ John Maples Next version of Vision should address most of the scope differences, and we will minimize changes Assigning ownership to each input table and also create a guidance for the sub groups “Super users” will support the sub groups to ensure control of the runs, but each sub group is free to play around Aim for Vision run for each scenario by 15 Dec Technology commentary in AEO 2010 will cover: Technology scope compared to the scope being covered by the sub group Level of detail in AEO compared to how the technology scope is defined in the study and the level of detail the sub group will go in analysing the technology For each technology in scope, key assumptions on Technology developments Operational and investment cost evolution Timing of commercialisation and scale up How does the treatment of technology compare with your views on the current state of the technology? Technology evaluation and development of views on evolution and acceleration Concern re: study of studies- ie. If we are supposed to evaluate how a technology could evolve to 2050 (particularly in an accelerated high technology case where we are challenged to really think out of the box), it is unlikely in many cases that this information will be in other studies and, even if they are, that they will be comparable across technologies Melissa and Joseph will work on developing guidelines for how each group defines the stage of maturity of the technology, developments and acceleration- there needs to be some consistency across the sub groups Melissa and Joseph had a call w/ National Academies- used decision tree over time approach Contacted Matt Rogers to get a copy of the High Technology, Innovation scenario they developed for internal DoE use
