Today – Friday, March 22, 2013  Introduction into scoring the SAT  Learning Target : Use Pythagorean Theorem, Special Right Triangles and Trigonometry to solve problems on the SAT or ACT

ABOUT THE SATs…why are they important??? The SATs are most widely used college admission test. It provides colleges a way to test WHAT you know and HOW WELL you know it. The SATs test your CRITICAL READING, WRITING AND MATH skills learned during your high school education. The SATs are typically taken during your JUNIOR and SENIOR year-you may take it more than once!

HOW ARE THE SATs SCORED??? A perfect SAT score is 2400, 800 total possible points for each of the three subject areas (READING, WRITING, MATH). You get one point for each correct answer. You are penalized for incorrect answers (- 0.25 for each wrong answer). You are not scored for questioned skipped. Your RAW SCORE is calculated, then converted to the SCALED SCORE which will be out of a total of 2400.

PRACTICE SAT: SKIP PROBLEMS 6-8 You will have 30 minutes to complete as many problems as you can We will find the RAW SCORE of your test as a class Your test will be collected

CALCULATING YOUR RAW SCORE: Count how many questions you OMITTED, SKIPPED or DID NOT ANSWER. On the top of your test write the letter O, and write the number you counted. Go over answer and count how many questions you got CORRECT. On the top of your test write the letter C, and write the number you counted. Count how many questions you got INCORRECT. On the top of your test write the letter I, and write the number you counted. Count how many questions you omitted, skipped or did not answer. On the top of your test write the letter O, and write the number you counted. Divide the number of INCORRECT answer by 4, then SUBTRACT this number from the number of CORRECT answers. THIS IS YOUR RAW SCORE.
