15 Problems with the DOE Calculator Combining Continuous and Range VariablesCalculated Median Awards vs. Estimated Range AwardsWide income and EFC ranges may provide a less accurate estimateStudents are asked for dependency status, but there is no difference in awards No option to use generalized merit-aid criteria to estimate institutional or state merit aid Work-study and loans are not part of the aid package

16 VSA and Texas Aid Estimator Goals Meet HEOA and State guidelines by January2010 Where? Entry page, Output, Printout, other? Academic programs for which calculator’s net price estimates are not relevant (e.g., special pricing) Groups of students for which net price estimate is not relevant (e.g., graduate students, part-time students) Include institutional caveats box Option to include estimates for groups other than FTFT students? Transfer students? Part-time students? Suggestions?

17 Notice to VSA and Texas Colleges Members of the Voluntary System of Accountability or any Texas Institution of Higher Education will receive a version of the required Net Price Calculator that will meet the requirements of the HEOA. What if you are not in these group?
