Measuring Population By Wilj Rosd Ducn
2
Direct observation The size of a population, when you count how many are in a group and you count them one by one. When I am in the mountains and looking at deer there are a lot of them in one group.
3
Indirect Observation It is a simple way to see how many are in a area of one population. I have dog houses and there is two dogs per dog house and there are 20 dog houses you can find out how many dogs are in that population
4
Sampling Estimating by counting a small area of a population then multiplying it by the total population to get an estimate for the amount the population is. I count 5 dogs in one area of the dog park and multiply it by 4 for the other parts of the park and estimate that there is 25 dogs at the dog park.
5
Mark and recapture Capturing part of a population and marking them. Then letting them go and recapture some more of the population 2 weeks later. Count how many of them are marked and use a mathematical formula to calculate the population of the species. I release a marked turtle and don’t recapture it 2 weeks later, but I capture some marked and some unmarked ones.
