PROTOCOLS FOR INSTRUCTIONS: SET-UP JANUARY 11, 2015 (DAY #1) S 1.You should have the following items on your desk. a.Lesson 20-2 Practice, P. 276 #’s 10-14 b.Calculator c.Pencil & Pen 2.Tear out Activity #21: Dilations pages 279–290 from your Springboard Book. 3.Take the Challenge! 4.Sit quietly and wait for teacher instructions E Take the Challenge! How do you describe the properties of dilations? T READY TO LEARN TIME: 2:47 PM Sit and organize materials. Enter the classroom quietly, voice level = 0. Get your Springboard Book from the shelf and take a sheet. Examine and follow directions:

Answer: ∆LOG ~ ∆PIN and ∆ARM ~ ∆BET Answer: Lucas is correct. Since the sum of the angle measures in a triangle is 180˚, the third angles in the triangles must have the same measure. Since all three pairs of corresponding angles are congruent, the triangles are similar.
3
Learning Targets: Investigate the effects of dilations on two-dimensional figures. Explore the relationship of dilated figures on the coordinate plane. TEK(S): I know that ratios of corresponding sides of similar shapes are proportional. (8.3A) I know that dilations produce similar figures. (8.3A) I can identify the similarities and differences between a shape and its dilation on a coordinate plane. (8.3B) I know the properties of transformations. (8.10A) I can represent transformations algebraically for the coordinate plane. (8.10C) I can model the effect on linear and area measurements of dilated 2-D shapes. (8.10D)

How long do we have to complete the activity? 10 minutes What do we do? Complete the Exploring Similar Figures WS #’s 1-6 (ALL) in your group. Page 284 #5–6 Answer: Since the perimeter is comparing the image to the pre-image, and the ratio is a value greater than 1, then the image has a greater perimeter than the pre-image. Answer: Corresponding sides must be proportional.

How long do we have to complete the activity? 10 minutes What do we do? Complete the Exploring Similar Figures WS #’s 1-6 (ALL) in your group. Page 284 #7 Answer: Bradley; only one element, either radius or diameter, defines the dimensions of a circle. Susan is incorrect because the length and width of a rectangle defines its dimensions.

LESSON 21-1 (QUIZ): 1/12/2016 How long do we have to complete the exam? 10 minutes What do I do? You will need to complete page 291, Dilations – Alice’s Adventure in Shrinking and Growing problems #’s 2-6 (ALL). Use a separate sheet of notebook paper to show your work. To receive full credit ALL mathematical process should be shown. What do I do when I finish the exam? Begin working you your homework; Lesson 21-1 Practice, P. 285 #’s 8-11 TEK(S): I know that ratios of corresponding sides of similar shapes are proportional.
