1 Warm-Up: Take out your I Am poem and number each line.
In your spiral notebook, write what a FANBOY is. Copy your HW.

2 Warm-Up day 2: Take out your RD#2 with 5 coordinating conjunctions. Partner swap. With RED pencil BOX the FANBOY. With a GREEN pencil underline EACH independent clause.

3 Warm-Up HONORS: Open up your google doc. Partner swap. Find the 5 different coordinating conjunctions.. Highlight in RED the CC; highlight in YELLOW each independent clause; highlight in GREEN the comma. Identify the 4 literary devices.

4 HONORorable Work: Identify the alliteration and underline the repetitive sounds. Identify the metaphor. What is being personified? Is the onomatopoeia used as an ACTION verb, not as a stand alone word?

5 Coordinating Conjunctions

6 I was so tired, for the baby was up crying all night.
I want to go to the party, and I want to go to the movies. I do not like ketchup, nor do I like mustard. I really want to go , but I didn’t finish my homework. He said I could go tonight ,or I could go tomorrow night. He thought he was right, yet he was sooo wrong. I didn’t study, so I am sure I will bomb the test.

7 When combining two independent clauses, place a comma BEFORE the conjunction

8 Independent clause – a fancy-schmancy way of saying a complete sentence

9 For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So

11 For = “because”

12 I got my dog’s medicine, for he is sick.

13 I studied, for I wanted a good grade.

14 I love playing in soccer tournaments, and I love surfing tournaments.

15 And . . . I went to the football game, and I decided to paint my face blue and white.

16 Nor . . . Combines two negative sentences; must have “not” in the first independent clause

17 I do not like you nor your sister.

18 I do not like green beans, nor do I like broccoli.

19 BUT shows a CONTRAST or difference.

20 I am a fast runner, but I have poor form.

21 I want to go to the movie, but I want to read a book too.

22 I want to go to the mall, or I want to go to the movies.
Or Offers a choice I want to go to the mall, or I want to go to the movies.

23 I either have to read a book, or I must find something outside to do.

24 I love dance but hate gym.
But = Yet I love dance but hate gym.

25 I hate soccer, but/yet I love football.

26 I like the new kid, but/yet he doesn’t like me.

27 I did not study, so I failed miserably.
So = in conclusion I did not study, so I failed miserably.

28 So = in conclusion Don’t go so fast.

29 My dad wouldn’t let me go out, so I have to stay in and read a book.
