Do you need a refresher on Organic Chemistry? Well… You’ve come to the right place.
3
First, we need to know the basics of naming Numba 1: Find the longest carbon chain and number it.
4
Numba 2: Use the appropriate prefix for the number of carbons. 1 carbon, meth- 2 carbons, eth- 3 carbons, prop- 4 carbons, but- 5 carbons, pent- 6 carbons, hex- 7 carbons, hep- 8 carbons, oct- 9 carbons, non- 10 carbons, dec- Don’t forget to add -ane, -ene, -yne if it is either a alkane, alkene, or alkyne (respectively) Alkane- all single bonds Alkene- at least a double bond Alkyne- at least one triple bond
5
Easy stuff now. Don’t mess up. Numba 3: Add that extra stuff. JK Add substituent groups, functional groups, alkyl groups, or some/all of the above The name of the alkyl, functional, or substituent group must be accompanied with the carbon number it is located on. This includes the locations of the double or triple bond.
6
Alright, got that? Just watch for structural isomers, which have same molecular formulas but different structures And cycloalkanes, or ring-shaped alkanes
7
For practice, try this matching game Other than that, have a nice day child.
