Pluto used to be considered the ninth planet, but it is now only a small or dwarf planet

7. Inner or Outer? Menu Inner Planets are closest to the Sun
The Inner Planets in our Solar System are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars
Outer Planets are farthest from the Sun
The Outer Planets in our Solar System are: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune

8. Mercury Menu Mercury is the smallest planet in the Solar System
Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun
Mercury is covered with many craters on it’s surface

9. Venus
Venus is a small, rocky planet with a thick layer of yellowish clouds
Venus is the second planet from the Sun
Venus’ surface is very hot! 752 degrees!!

10. Earth
Earth is the ONLY planet that supports life or has people living on it!
Earth is 4.6 billion years old
Pictures of Earth are very important because they help predict the weather

11. Mars
Mars is a cold, small, rocky planet with NO life living on it
Very strong winds and dust storms can blow for months
Mars has two tiny moons that orbit close to the surface

12. Jupiter Menu Jupiter is by far the largest planet
Jupiter has light colored bands called zones and dark colored bands called belts
Jupiter has 16 known moons

13. Saturn Menu Saturn is a giant planet made of gas.
Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun
Saturn has very bright rings made of particles that circle it.

14. Uranus Menu Uranus’ blue color is from a gas called methane
Uranus has 11 rings, but they are hard to see
Uranus is mostly made of rock and ice.

15. Neptune Menu The winds on Neptune are the fastest in the solar system.
Neptune’s blue color is from a gas called methane - like Uranus
Neptune has been visited by only one spacecraft.

16. Summary Menu There are now eight planets in our Solar System
Inner planets are closest to the Sun and Outer planets are farther from the Sun
The inner planets are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars
The outer planets are: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune
Mercury is the smallest planet and Jupiter is the largest planet
