2) Create a PowerPoint with pages titled: Genre Genre Cinematography Cinematography Representations Representations Narrative Narrative Audience Audience
5
3) Helpful questions Genre (type of film – e.g. horror, comedy) Genre (type of film – e.g. horror, comedy) –what genre is the film? –How can you tell? –Does it have any iconography (things you expect from certain genres – e.g. blood = horror)? –Does it have more than one genre (making it a hybrid)?
6
Cinematography Cinematography –Identify three different camera shots used in the trailer – you could pause and print screen them and add them to your powerpoint –Explain why you think they have been used –Is the editing fast paced or slow paced? How does this make the audience feel?
7
Representations Representations –Are stereotypes used? – a stereotype is an exaggerated representation of groups of people – these are often used in films (e.g. men = hard and muscular, women need saving)
8
Narrative Narrative –Does the trailer use enigmas (mysteries the audience needs to watch the film to find out)/cliffhangers? –Does it appear to follow Propp’s theory (hero, villain, princess, helper)? –Does it appear to follow Todorov’s theory (beginning: everything is normal = equilibrium; middle: something bad happens = disruption; end: returns to normal = new equilibrium)
9
Audience Audience –Who do you think the film is aimed at? Men or women? Young, middle aged, old? Use an age range (e.g. 15-30 years old) Why do you think this audience will like this film?
