Basic Facts of Halloween Occurs every year on October 31st Children participate in an activity called “Trick-or-Treating” Originated to celebrate harvest time and spirits of the dead Halloween colors are black and orange

History of Halloween Originated in Ireland 2,000 years ago, called Samhain People celebrated the new year which started November 1. Oct. 31 was the last day of summer and the people believed ghosts of dead people returned to earth that night. To avoid harm from evil spirits, people wore masks and costumes to look like spirits themselves.

History of Halloween By 700s, Catholic Church named Nov. 1 All Hallows Day to celebrate saints rather than the dead Oct 31 was called All Hallow’s Eve meaning the night before All Hallows Day. This is where we got the word Halloween.

Trick or Treating Children walk around their neighborhood with a bag or bucket to collect candy from neighbors. Children will knock on a door and say “Trick or Treat” when the neighbor opens the door. The neighbor will give each child some candy. The children will then trick or treat at the next house

How to Carve a Pumpkin First cut a hole in the top of the pumpkin Then, take out all the seeds and insides of the pumpkin Cut eyes, nose, and mouth into pumpkin on the side Finally, place candle inside pumpkin to light up its face
