Ovarian cancer is cancer of the ovaries. Women has two ovaries next to the uterus.

There are three kinds of ovarian cancer: * Begins outside the ovaries * Begins in the egg-making cells * Begins in hormone-making cells

It is not exactly known what causes ovarian cancer; however, it is believed that normal cells acquire an abnormal cell mutation.

Some of the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer are abdominal swelling, pelvic pain, change in bowel and bladder movements, and low back pain.

In order to diagnose ovarian cancer the doctor will do a pelvic exam. An ultrasound and blood test may also be done. Finally, surgery to get a testing sample may be performed.

Surgery is the most common treatment for ovarian cancer. After that chemotherapy is needed in most cases to kill left over cancer cells.
