1
EXTRACTION AND FINGERPRINTING DNA
2
The Genetic Code Genes- control the production of proteins in an organisms cells. Proteins determine the traits of an organism
3
DNA DNA is made of four nitrogen bases A (adenine) T (thymine) G (guanine) C (cytosine) They form the rungs of the DNA ladder.
4
Nitrogen Base Pairs The bases A, T, G, C pair up in certain ways. A with T G with C These are called- Base Pairs Each human cell has 3 billion DNA base pairs.
5
DNA and Proteins The order of the nitrogen bases creates the genetic code. The genetic code determines what protein will be produced. Much of the code is not used. http://www.pbs.org/wg bh/nova/genome/dna_f lash.html http://www.pbs.org/wg bh/nova/genome/dna_f lash.html

DNA Extraction Taking DNA out of a cell to read the code. http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/labs/extracti on/ http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/labs/extracti on/

DNA fingerprinting Everyone’s genetic code is different just like fingerprints. (Except Identical Twins) http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/labs/gel/
