1
the Senate’s ad hoc Academic Planning Committee Preliminary Report 2.10.09
2
ahAPC The Academic Senate ad hoc Academic Planning Committee (AHAPC) will develop an academic strategic plan for Cal Poly Pomona that reflects the university’s mission, vision, and core values
3
ahAPC As an ad-hoc committee of the Academic Senate, the AHAPC will follow established Senate procedure in its activities.
4
ahAPC A final report will be submitted by April 7, 2009 to the Executive Committee, in order to provide time for the Senate to review, discuss, amend, and vote on its recommendations to the President.
5
ahAPC Strategic planning should be a path and not a destination. ◦ An accent on the process over the product highlights the centrality of participation. Good planning is not done in isolation. ◦ No strategic plan is ever the last one.
6
ahAPC Our task would be impossible in the short time available except for the fact that much work has already been done.
7
ahAPC Activities so far: charting out a timeline. taking the measure of current planning in the colleges analyzing other University strategic plans for template material; the co-chairs interviewed officials at UNLV. evaluating the data sources that exist encouraging input from the colleges
8
ahAPC Despite the substantial nature of our task, the baggage of recent history and the unavoidable shortness of our timeline, the ad hoc Academic Planning Committee has started its work energetically and optimistically. This early report is a down payment on our commitment to work transparently and a declaration of our dedication to the widest collaboration consonant with our specific tasks.
