January 28, 2016 1.Pick up an Election of 1796 reading from the front shelf. 2.Turn to the next available blank page and title it John Adam’s Election 3.Get out a highlighter. 4.Highlight the following: 1. Who is running for President? 2. How was a person determined to be President? 3. Descriptions of John A dams

January 29, 2016 1.Pick up a the goal sheet paper on the front shelf and your DATA folder from the front black table. 2.Also, pick up a new Unit 4 Vocabulary Sheet and highlight the words.

PDSA – Plan, Do, Study, Act (pre-AP) 1 st period – your class goal was “All students in 8 th grade will score 75% or above on all common assessments. On your Data/goal sheet, fill in the “class data” section at the top.

The XYZ Affair Britain and France at war French begin attacking American ships Wanted to stop U.S. from trading with Britain Adams send U.S. officials to negotiate with France

The XYZ Affair French agents demand a $10 million bribe before they would discuss a treaty Called themselves X,Y, & Z U.S. refused to give a cent! Angered the pro-French Democratic-Republicans Increased the division between the parties

The Alien and Sedition Acts Federalists feared that Republicans and the French would become allies French and British refugees came to the United States to escape the war Federalists passed several laws to silence the Democratic-Republicans Alien and Sedition Acts

The Alien and Sedition Acts Alien Act- gave the president the power to expel foreigners used against the French Sedition Act- made it illegal to publish criticisms about the government Sedition- any action, especially in speech or writing, that causes rebellion

The Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions,1798 Jefferson and Madison believe that the Sedition Act violated the 1 st Amendment They argue that states could nullify a federal law if the state believed it to be unconstitutional Nullify- to declare void or useless

North Ridge Resolutions PAP Just like Kentucky and Virginia, you are going to write a set of resolutions nullifying NRMS rules you believe to be “unconstitutional”. The requirements for your resolutions are: 1.Must identify 2-3 rules to nullify 2.Must show how each rule violates a right guaranteed to you in the Constitution (use your modified copy) Can use amendments 1-27 3.Must create an argument convincing other “states” to adopt your resolutions 4.Will be done on notebook paper

North Ridge Resolutions OL Just like Kentucky and Virginia, you are going to write a set of resolutions nullifying an NRMS rule you believe to be “unconstitutional”. The requirements for your resolutions are: 1.Must identify 1 rule to nullify (minimum) 2.Must show how this rule violates a right guaranteed to you in the Constitution Can use Bill of Rights (amendments 1-10) as a guide Can also show how it violates your unalienable rights 3.Will be done on notebook paper
