4
Many Members - One Body Light Stars Earth Water Vegetation Animals God Spoke Man God Formed
5
Many Members - One Body The human body as figure for the church conveys 3 things: 1.The Glory of the church. 2.The Unity of the church. Unity not Conformity
6
Many Members - One Body For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Romans 12:4-5
7
Many Members - One Body For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. I Cor. 12:12
8
Many Members - One Body For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. I Cor. 12:13-14
9
Many Members - One Body If the foot says, “Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. I Cor. 12:15
10
Many Members - One Body And if the ear says, “Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. I Cor. 12:16
11
Many Members - One Body If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? I Cor. 12:17
12
Many Members - One Body But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. If they were all one member, where would the body be? I Cor. 12:18-19
13
Many Members - One Body from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. Eph. 4:16
14
Many Members - One Body The figure of the body demonstrates the features of “Unity”
15
UNITY POSSESSES… A.Interconnectedness
16
UNITY POSSESSES… A.Interconnectedness B.Diversity
17
UNITY POSSESSES… A.Interconnectedness B.Diversity C.Function
18
UNITY CREATED BY… Celebrating our interconnectedness Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ? Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread. - I Cor. 10:16-17
19
UNITY CREATED BY… Accepting our Diversity The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat, and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats, for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. - Rom. 14:3-4
20
UNITY CREATED BY… Promoting each other’s value Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing. I Thess. 5:11

24
The human body figure also conveys three things about Christ’s Position. 3. He is United to the church. 15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. Eph. 4:15-16
