Tide: Daily change in the level of the oceans surface. It is the gravitational pull of the sun and moon that causes the tide.

The ocean is divided into two general environments. 1.Benthic (Bottom) -Classified into five zones 2.Palagic (water) -Classified into two zones

Benthic Zones The shallowest benthic zone is the intertidal zone. Because of shifting tides and breaking waves the zone is relatively an unstable environment for marine life. Changing tides may leave the zone dry. Marine life still grows because of the attraction by sunlight, abundant nutrients, and well mixed water

The Bathyal zone begins at the continental slope, extends to a depth of 4,000 meters. It has little or no sunlight plant life (barely none) plant life (barely none) The Abyssal zone has no Light, and begins where the Bathyal zone ends. Extends To a depth of 6,000 m.

The Hadal zone is rarely ever explored. The animals that live The animals that live there are dependent there are dependent on food that falls on food that falls from above. from above.

The Neritic zone is located above continental shelves. Has abundant sunlight, generally moderate temps. Perfect for marine life. Oceanic zone extends into the deep and open ocean waters beyond the continental shelf. Divided into four zones based on depth. Epipelagic zone – uppermost area Sunlit and populated by dolphin and tuna. Palagic Zones

Mesopelagic, bathypelagic, and abyssopelagic zones occur at increasing depths. Marine life decreases with the depth in the with the depth in the pelagic environment. No sunlight=no plants=no oxygen=less/no fish
