2 When You Feel Common Cold Symptoms Coming On You should make sure you get plenty of rest during the day and sleep at night. Be sure to drink plenty of water and juices so you don’t get dehydrated. Consume lots of chicken soup, mom can’t be all wrong!

3 If you get a really sore throat Make sure you gargle with warm, soothing salt water often. Suck on a lozenge with menthol and a mild anesthetic. Let the soothing lozenge dissolve slowly in your mouth even if you are tempted to chew.

4 What Can Help? Decongestants These products help relieve your painful stuffy nose by shrinking blood vessels but be sure not to take them more than three days. Antihistamines These products relieve a runny nose, itching, and sneezing by having a drying effect.

5 To Avoid a Cold You should stay away from other people you think might have a cold. Make sure you wash your hands frequently in case you have come in contact with some cold germs. Keep your hands away from your mouth and nose in case you have come in contact with some cold germs. Throw away your tissues in the closest trash can so others don’t pick them up and get exposed to your germs.

6 Don’t be one of the one billion people that suffer from a cold or sore throat that accompanies a cold each year.
