-Step son of Octavian -One of Rome’s great generals (Military Man) -Didn’t really want to be Emperor, but took the reign reluctantly -Fearful of assassination he left to the island of Capri. There he sent vague letters and orders, but was an ineffective emperor

-Nickname “Little Boots” or “Soldier’s Boots” -Initially very popular amongst the Romans -Mentally ill(tried to have his horse elected Consul) -Intended to place a statue of himself in Jerusalem

Ordered the destruction of all churches and scriptures within the empire -Persecuted Christians for their beliefs -Re-organized Rome’s Finances and Military -Lived in an Army Camp Most of his life -Split the Roman Empire into two (Eastern and Western)

-Had the Roman Colosseum finished during his reign -Mt. Vesuvius erupted and destroyed Pompeii -Oversaw operations to aid victims of Volcano eruption -Widespread disease during his reign
