PEER TUTORING PROGRAM “Assisting students who need additional support in developing their numeracy skills”

Why have this program? It will provide Year 8 students with a tutor to help them to improve their numeracy skills.

Who will be tutoring? Year 8 Tutors are very able mathematics students from years 10- 12. They will be providing one on one mathematics tuition for any year 8 student needing extra assistance with their Maths.

How will it work? A booking sheet will be placed on the Year 8 Centre noticeboard every Friday, commencing on Friday 17th August, for students to book a tutor.booking sheet As there will be a limited number of tutors available, assistance will be provided on a first come first serve basis.

Benefits of Peer tutoring Tutees (students being tutored) will: feel more confident about their mathematical abilities. be given individual attention provided outside class time and will not need to pay for private tuition classes. develop further their communication skills, self esteem and personal satisfaction….

Other rewards… A record of attendance will also be kept so that Year 8 students could then accumulate points towards their Skills Awards. Bronze Certificate ……10 attendances Silver Certificate………20 attendances Gold Certificate………..30 attendances Trophy………………….40 attendances

When will this program start? The Peer Tutoring Program will take place, on a trial basis, every Tuesday lunchtime (12.55-1.40) in room P001 starting on Tuesday 21st August.
