Potential and Kinetic Energy (If it is white you write)
2
What is Energy ? The ability to do work or cause change. Energy can NEVER be created or destroyed it can only change forms. This is referred to as the Law of Conservation of Energy. The Stored chemical energy you had for breakfast is leaking out of the top of your head as heat energy and being used as mechanical kinetic energy (breathing).
3
What are the different types of Energy? Kinetic Energy Potential Energy Thermal, or heat energy Chemical Energy Electrical Energy Electrochemical Energy Electromagnetic Energy (light) Sound Energy Nuclear Energy Mechanical Energy
4
Potential Energy Potential energy is energy due to position or stored energy. Potential energy is also called gravitational potential energy. Potential energy depends on Mass and position. By stretching a rubber band, you give it potential energy. A vase on a shelf has stored potential energy. A football being held by a quarterback has potential energy until it is thrown and it turns into kinetic energy. Task 1: Create your own example of Potential energy using the tennis ball. Be sure to explain how your example represents Potential Energy.
5
Kinetic Energy Kinetic energy is the energy of motion. Kinetic energy is measured by how much is work done to put an object in motion or to rest. Kinetic Energy depends on Mass and Speed. A basketball player has kinetic energy. The movements that she does show the energy that is being displayed while she is moving. When you are running, walking, or jumping, your body is exhibiting kinetic energy. Task 2: Create your own example of Kinetic energy using the tennis ball. Be sure to explain how your example represents Kinetic Energy.
6
Task 3 Most objects have both Kinetic and Potential Energy, where the object could be moving and also storing energy at different times. Task 3: Create scenario with the tennis ball, which contains both Kinetic and Potential Energy. Write your scenario in your notebook and be prepared to demonstrate
7
Potential and Kinetic Energy Ticket Out. 1.Name at least 5 FORMS of Energy. 2.You must be in motion to have _________ energy. 3.We can see Chemical energy during a _________ change. 4.The amount of kinetic energy depends on what 2 factors? 5.The law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or ______________.
