1 VERBS 1. A verb is a word that shows action or state of being.

2 2. A verb may have physical or mental action.
Physical – run, see, jump Mental – believe, worry, want

3 State-of-being verbs just state that something is.
They do NOT show action. Examples - She is a good student. We are Strack Cougars.

4 The state of being verbs are as follows: (Learn them by Thursday.)

5 5. Verb phrases are made up of two or more words –
Main verb + auxiliary (helping) verbs

6 be have can being has could been had will am do would is did shall are does should was may ought were might must

7 6. An interrupter is a word that comes between the helping and the main verbs.
It is not part of the verb phrase. Example: Alexis will probably make a good grade. It is not raining today.
