Cost Initial price of R2000 Homes are not realistic to average consumer Costs $10000 to $15000 more than average new house on the market When will the energy savings break even with the initial house price? Energy efficiency is not the highest priority to a typical consumer when purchasing a new home There are other alternative measures of achieving a more energy efficient home for less Canadian Government issues grants for energy- saving retrofits into existing homes

Application There are many issues associated with applying the R2000 standard to new homes Majority of trades people not qualified to construct or service the specific systems Time = Money Major emphasis on air tightness which requires precision and quality workmanship Because of these issues only a select few home builders offer R2000 options

Practicality Restricted in R2000 house location R2000 homes are not as profitable to the developers so many choose not to offer them. R2000 homes rely on complete air tightness to operate and any break of this seal leads to malfunction in the system Maintenance on R2000 homes requires frequent tests to assure the air circulation system is functioning properly
