1. Oh! Plastids! What a coincidence. Those are my favorite part of the cell! Lets get started.

2. Lets begin with talking about the three types of plastids. This includes the Chloroplast, Chromoplast, and the Leucoplast. They are all found in the Plant Cell. Leucoplast Chromoplast Chloroplast

3. Chloroplasts You can find Chloroplasts in green plant cells. They are responsible for Photosynthesis and contain chlorophyll which is where it takes place. Although the chloroplast has no specific location, it floats around the cell, and is part of the cytoplasm. It is lens-shaped and about 5 microns long, although size can vary.

4. Chromoplasts Chromoplasts are found in flower, fruit, and some root cells. They give them the distinct red, orange, or yellow color because of caroteniod. Like the Chloroplasts, they are lens shaped. Chromoplasts are responsible for pigment synthesis and storage. They are also found in the cytoplasm, floating around the cell.

6. Have you ever wondered why blueberries are blue? The chromoplasts are not the reason. The true blue color comes from the high content of anthocyanin!
