2 Chapter 7 Describe how Wilbur feels at the beginning of Chapter 7. Use words and phrases from the chapter. What information did the sheep give Wilbur? How did Wilbur react to he sheep’s news? Why does Charlotte think the sheep might be right? What promise did Charlotte make to Wilbur at the end of Chapter 7? What is the main idea of chapter 7?

3 Chapter 7 – Craft and Structure Questions
Reread the 2nd sentence on page 48. What does this mean? Reread the end of page 49. The author uses the word “murdered”. What other words could the author have used? Why do you think he chose that word? Describe the conspiracy the author talks about on page 49? Why does Charlotte say, “ That remains to be seen.”? Why doesn’t the author have Charlotte say this instead of telling the reader the plan? Reread the first full paragraph on page 51. How are Wilbur’s feelings in this paragraph different from his feelings in chapter 4? What has caused this change? How did the illustrator help us understand the title of the chapter on page 50?

Who is the most important character in chapter 8? Why do you think this, give details to support your answer? What message is the author trying to give us? Why is Mr. Arable worried about Fern?

5 Chapter 8 – Craft and Structure
Why does Mrs. Arable give Fern a “worried” look? Why does Fern describe Charlotte as “clever”? What do you think Mrs. Arable means when she says, “I haven’t the faintest idea?” What does Fern’s mom mean on page 54 when she says that Fern has a lively imagination Fern tells her parents about the farm animals and they don’t believer her. How do you think your parents would react if you told them this story? How are Mr. and Mrs. Arable similar in this chapter? What is the cause of Mrs. Arable wanting to talk to Dr. Dorian?

6 Chapter 9 – Key ideas and details
What is the main idea of chapter 9? Describe how Wilbur tries to spin a web. Was Wilbur successful trying to spin a web? Why or why not? Explain how the lamb hurt Wilbur’s feelings. When does Charlotte do her “thinking”?

7 Chapter 9 – Craft and structure
What are Wilbur and Templeton doing on page 58-59? How do the illustrations help you understand? What does Wilbur mean when he says, “I was just trying to show off”? Why does the author give us information on spiders at the beginning of chapter 9? If you were Charlotte, what might you do to help save Wilbur?
