AP/Senior Final Project

AP/Senior Project Your senior project is meant to accomplish two things: 1: Fulfill official requirements 2: Mean something to you Goal of Project Research what it is you’ll do with your life if it doesn’t go according to plan Everyone needs a “backup plan” The likelihood of you spending your entire working life in the same job/career field is about as likely as your winning the lottery You will experience periods of unemployment, sudden job loss, or illness Need to have a plan to pay the bills, keep food on the table and support yourself and your family without government assistance

Outline of Project You need to plan for a change in career and the loss of income during times of job loss and transition. Tell me the following things: 1) What it is you want to do with your life. What career do you want to get into? What type of schooling will it require? What core classes will you be taking? (use your college’s catalog and requirements to accomplish this What type of certification or legal hoops do you have to go through to achieve it? What is the average salary of someone working in that position or field? What is the Department of Labor’s forecast for that industry in the coming years?

Outline continued 2) What is your backup plan for when that goes sideways? You need a second, possibly unrelated field in which you can work and succeed in, when you find you can’t hack it, your job gets outsourced, or the industry goes under. What career do you want to get into? What type of schooling will it require? What can you use from your prior degree or what can you do during your undergrad time to be dual certified? What type of certification or legal hoops do you have to go through to achieve it? What is the average salary of someone working in that position or field? What is the Department of Labor’s forecast for that industry in the coming years?

More requirements 3) How will you support yourself during down time? It’s not responsible to turn to the government to support you because being a rodeo clown didn’t work out the way you hoped. You need savings during your working years for cash, and a retirement plan to take care of yourself after you’re done working- do not plan on Social Security being there for you. 1) How will you save cash for a, “rainy day fund”? How much can you put aside each week/month? How will that money grow at conservative rates? (see amortization savings calculators) 2) What type of retirement plan will you assemble for yourself? Don’t count on Social Security or a company pension. Traditional or Roth IRA? How much will you put in it? How will it grow? (other investment tools are possible, as well)

The Next Generation 4) How will you ensure that your children can enjoy the benefits of higher education? 1) Tell me about the college savings plan you’ll create for your yet-unborn children (google college savings plans) and how you’ll fund it and how it’ll grow

Assembly Instructions This is a written assignment with a power point component for presentation purposes Because you cannot write without minimum requirements, give me at least one page per standard goal I’ve mentioned Create a power point that summarizes your paper. This allows you to have bullet points behind you as you present this to the class and myself You must cite information contained within the paper, but not the photos you lift from the internet to put in the power point Paper and power point due for presentation, third block January 21.
