Use of AMR data Gareth Evans on behalf of Corona Energy

Purpose  Presentation is to highlight benefits of wide- scale AMR, which will be mandatory for all customers AQ>732,000 kWh by 2014.  Project Nexus is ideally timed to attempt to capture these benefits.  Also look at potential system issues.

AMR Read Submission (1)  Currently DM requires submission of all reads to the relevant Supplier by 11am to allow Users to plan Gas Procurement.  DME process will follow the same timescales – data not currently used by Transporters  Reasonable to expect large increase in DME sites as AMR is rolled out to all customers >732,000 kWh.

AMR Read Submission (2)  Hard early deadline of 11am for DME gives a short window for Shippers to submit large numbers of files simultaneously.  Requires large system build that to achieve a target that does not seem necessary.  Staggered read submission would reduce capacity needs and save costs Percentage targets End of gas day  Note: DM obligations should stay same as beneficial to gas Procurement.

Customer Behaviour (1)  AMR devices provide far greater levels of data on customer behaviour.  Should allow Suppliers to determine likely customer demand with far greater accuracy.  Detailed information on past customer behaviour is currently only available to incumbent supplier.

Customer Behaviour (2)  Current Supplier has inherent advantage in having complete record of Site activity.  Prospective Supplier has undue risk as it does not have access to site usage history and has to make assumptions on profile.  Levels playing field by allowing all Suppliers to see past behaviour (NOT necessarily meter read information)  Need information promptly to allow rapid turnaround.

Balancing  Access to past behaviour allows prospective Suppliers to predict future behaviour with greater accuracy.  Gas Procurement activity would improve, enhancing cost efficiency and improving system signals.  Again information would need to be quickly provided.
