The Fundamentals Of Warp Drive Design
3
The Need for Speed As we have seen B fields propagate through paper clips differently than air. Namely they find it easier to permeate the metal than air. The same go for E fields which see less resistance in metals than air. So, how are they related?
4
Dare To Be Square! We know that changing B gives rise to a changing E. And that a changing E gives rise to changing B. Further more we know that B is perpendicular to E. B E
5
Dare To Be Square! We discussed cross products and know that B X E = F Where F can be a real force, EMF, I or velocity B E F
6
Dare To Be Square! When we begin to add time to the diagram interesting things happen. B f(t) E f(t) t Arbitrary small area A
7
Back to The Flux Capacitor The “arbitrary small area” returns us to the idea of field flux.
8
Back to The Flux Capacitor What happens when we begin to play with the units inside the squares?
9
F = qvB I’m curious about the v (velocity) in the above expression.
10
F = qvB But the velocity of what?????????
11
F = qvB But the velocity of what????????? Previously is was the velocity of a physical particle like an electron, proton or doubly ionized helium nucleus, namely an alpha particle. But what if there’s no charged particle? Perhaps v is the velocity of something else. Back to how B and E propagate through a vacuum or free space.
12
B We can measure, using various instruments, how a magnetic filed permeates a vacuum. μ 0 = 4π x 10 -7 T · m A This is called “the permeability of free space” and it’s a physical constant of the known universe.
13
E We can measure, using various instruments, how an electric filed is permitted to pass through a vacuum. ε 0 = 8.85 x 10 -12 C 2 _ N · m 2 This is called “the permittivity of free space” and it’s a physical constant of the known universe.
14
Pardon My Derivation Can the values of ε & μ – which define the fabric of space – be used to somehow get back to v? Expanding the Tesla Out to Base Units……..
15
Pardon My Derivation
17
The speed of light is an E B function that is tied to very nature of the fabric of the Universe!!!!
