5 Extractor and Transformation module (ETM) in UE It consists of two functions –Extractor Function (EF) –Transformation Function (TF) Extractor Function –Captures all outgoing IP packets. –Redirects these packets to TF. Transformation Function –Handles outgoing layer-4 packets from the EF Adds the SCTP header to all IP packets. Transports these SCTP packets to SCTP Gateway. –Handles incoming SCTP packets from SCTP Gateway Removes the SCTP header from all SCTP packets. Sends these IP packets to the corresponding application process.

6 Gateway Transformation Module (GTM) in SCTP Gateway Handles the incoming SCTP packets from UE –Removes the SCTP header from all SCTP packets. –Transports these IP packets to the corresponding remote host. Handles the incoming IP packets from the remote host –Adds the SCTP header to all IP packets. –Sends these SCTP packets to UE.

7 Connection Monitor Monitor the Signal of WLAN. The handoff between 3G and WLAN according to WLAN signal.

8 Future work Consider more advanced metrics for handoff decision –Power consumption –Bandwidth (for QoS guarantee) Scheduling IP multimedia streams over the SCTP multi-homing paths (collaborated with Prof. Chung-Ta King)
