Local Touch...Global Reach Introductions 3 Working with SharePoint since 2008. Microsoft Certified – SharePoint (MCSE) Senior Consultant with Sogeti Florida Blogger at anotherSharePointBlog.comanotherSharePointBlog.com SharePoint Nerd in training

Local Touch...Global Reach What’s new in SharePoint 2016 Beta 2 4 Improved performance. Document Library accessibility keyboard shortcuts. New PowerShell commands, for rapid site deployment. Expanded support for special characters.

Local Touch...Global Reach Improved performance 5  Customized web parts compile times for customized XSLT files used for Content Query, Summary links, and Table of Contents.  MinRole Technology insures better performance.  Request Manager no longer prevents sites from rendering when the service is enabled and no routing rules are defined.  Automatic indexing of lists, effectively removing the 5000 threshold, even though it still exists.

Local Touch...Global Reach Document Library accessibility keyboard shortcuts 6  Landmarks to a page make navigation easier.  Updates to Help documentation.  New Keyboard shortcuts  Alt + N = New  Alt + E = Edit  Alt + U = Upload  Alt + M = Manage  Alt + S = Share  Alt + Y = Syncronization.

Local Touch...Global Reach New PowerShell commands, ability to rename a SharePoint Server, not new though! 7  115 new cmdlets as of Beta 2 e.g.  Get-SPSiteMaster  New-SPSiteMaster

Local Touch...Global Reach Expanded support for special characters 8  SharePoint has historically blocked file names that included the &, ~, {, and } characters, file names that contained a GUID, file names with leading dots, and file names longer than 128 characters. These restrictions are removed in SharePoint Server 2016 Beta 2 and are now available to use.

Local Touch...Global Reach What’s new in SharePoint 2016 Beta 2 (Continued..) 9  Hybrid site features to enable Hybrid solutions using O365.  Search across O365, On-premise, and One Drive for business.  Image and video previews.  IRM improvements to include OneDrive for business.  Large file support > 2 GB.

Local Touch...Global Reach Hybrid site features to enable Hybrid solutions using O365 10  Hybrid Sites – Integrated experience.  Follow content on premise and in Office 365  Utilize a single Office 365 profile.  Sync OneDrive for business and share with others.

Local Touch...Global Reach Search across O365, on premise, and One Drive for business 11  Ability to identify sensitive content across on prem, office 365, and One Drive.  51 built-in sensitive information types (e.g. credit cards, passport numbers, SSN’s)  DLP (Data loss prevention) in SharePoint eDiscovery site extended to SharePoint Online

Local Touch...Global Reach Image and video previews 12  In SharePoint Server 2016 Beta 2 when you post images and videos to a document library, you can see a preview by hovering the mouse over the image or video, or by clicking on them.

Local Touch...Global Reach IRM improvements to include OneDrive for business 13  Office 365 provides Information Rights Management (IRM) capabilities, which helps you secure your information by encrypting it and applying an intelligent policy so that only specified internal and/or external people can “act” on your information.  IRM protection stays in place whether you open file on Office Online or on a local folder and continues to apply the settings even if you make edits to the file in both locations.

Local Touch...Global Reach Large file support > 2 GB 14  Previous versions of SharePoint did not support uploading or downloading files larger than 2,047 MB.  SharePoint 2016 now allows you to upload or download larger files.  You can configure the desired maximum file-size limit on a per-web application basis in your SharePoint farm.  Recommend keep it under 10GB.

Local Touch...Global Reach What’s new in SharePoint 2016 Beta 2 (Continued…………) 15  Central Admin no longer provisioned on all servers by default.  Compliance features – control what’s on OneDrive for business.  Project Server 2016, licensing restrictions forthcoming.  Request manager service doesn’t care about no routing rules enabled.  Sharing

Local Touch...Global Reach Central Admin no longer provisioned on all servers by default 16  SharePoint Server 2016 Central Administration is now provisioned on the first server in a farm by default  Central Administration is not provisioned on additional servers in a farm by default.  You can provision or un-provision Central Administration on individual servers in a farm, no matter what the server role is by using the following methods:  Services on Server page off Central Admin > System Settings, or via powershell  New-SPCentralAdministration,  Remove-SPCentralAdministration

Local Touch...Global Reach Compliance features – control what’s on OneDrive for business. 17  The document deletion policy allows you to delete documents in users' OneDrive for Business sites after specific periods of time.  The In-Place Hold policy allows administrators to preserve documents, email, and other files.

Local Touch...Global Reach Project Server 2016, licensing restrictions forthcoming 18  Project Server 2016 Beta 2 is installed with SharePoint Server 2016 Beta 2.  Separate installation of Project Server bits no longer needed.  Currently there is no licensing restriction, but there will be in the future releases.  A separate PID key will be required to run it.

Local Touch...Global Reach Request manager service doesn’t care about no routing rules enabled 19  SharePoint Request Manager now provisions on the server roles shown in the following list, to support both throttling and routing scenarios:  Application  Distributed Cache  Front-End  Additionally, the Request Manager service will no longer prevent sites from rendering when the service is enabled while you have no routing rules defined.

Local Touch...Global Reach Sharing 20  Create and Share folder  Sharing Hint  See who the folder is shared with when viewing a folder  Members can share  Improved invitation mail  One-click email to approve or deny a request for access

Local Touch...Global Reach What’s new in SharePoint 2016 Beta 2 (Continued………………..) 21  Search up to 500 Million items per Search Server application.  Simplified SSL configuration for Central Admin site.  Sites page pinning for followed sites.  ODF – open document format.  MinRole Farm Topology.

Local Touch...Global Reach Search 22  Search supports indexing up to 500 Million items per Search Server application.  Search for sensitive content.  51 built-in sensitive information types. (e.g. credit card number, SSN, passport numbers, and more)

Local Touch...Global Reach Simplified SSL configuration for Central Admin site 23  New-SPCentralAdministration -Port - SecureSocketsLayer  Set-SPCentralAdministration -Port - SecureSocketsLayer  Psconfig.exe -cmd adminvs -port -ssl  The Central Administration public AAM URL will be automatically updated to use the appropriate protocol scheme, server name, and port number.

Local Touch...Global Reach Sites page pinning for followed sites 24  You can now pin sites that you see on the sites page.  A pinned site shows at the top of the list of sites that you're following.

Local Touch...Global Reach ODF – open document format 25  The Open Document Format (ODF) enables you to create new files in a document library and save as ODF files so that users can edit the new file with a program they choose.  You can create an ODF file from any program that is compatible with ODF. https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Set-Open-Document-Format-ODF-as-the-default-file-template-for-a-library-bf30a61d-1601-486e-8fa2- 924bc5ea303e#BKMK_CreateOdfTemplate

Local Touch...Global Reach MinRole Farm Topology 26  Simplified deployment – no worry about which services to run on which server, let SharePoint handle it.  Improved performance and reliability - Microsoft hasanalyzed the performance characteristics of SharePoint at Internet scale. The SharePoint services have been optimized for the MinRole topology based on that analysis.  Simpler capacity planning and farm scalability - By deploying your farm in a recommended MinRole topology, you’ll be able to leverage better predictable and prescriptive capacity- planning guidance.

Local Touch...Global Reach MinRole Farm Topology - continued 27  Smaller farms of less than 9 can still get partial benefits, e.g. a three server farm with 2 WFE and 1 custom server could be compliant, but only the 2 WFE would benefit from the additional logic that is built into MinRole roles.  9 servers are needed for High availability across the farm  2 Application, 2 Frontend, 2 Search, and 3 Distributed Cache https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt346114%28v=office.16%29.aspx http://blogs.technet.com/b/wbaer/archive/2015/05/12/what-s-new-in-sharepoint-server-2016-installation-and-deployment.aspx https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt346121%28office.16%29.aspx

Local Touch...Global Reach MinRole Farm Topology 28  Minimum 100% support MinRole configuration becomes a four-server farm with one of each role.  Roles (LocalServerRole) PowerShell Parameter  WebFrontEnd (Front-end server role)  Application (Application server role)  DistributedCache (Distributed Cache server role)  Search (Search server role)  Custom (Custom server role) No Performance gain  SingleServerFarm (Single-Server Farm server role)

Local Touch...Global Reach MinRole Farm Topology CLI 29  psconfig.exe -cmd configdb -create -server -database -user -password -passphrase -admincontentdatabase -localserverrole -cmd helpcollections -installall - cmd secureresources -cmd services -install -cmd installfeatures -cmd adminvs -provision -port - windowsauthprovider onlyusentlm -cmd applicationcontent -install OR  New-SPConfigurationDatabase -DatabaseServer -DatabaseName - FarmCredentials -Passphrase - AdministrationContentDatabaseName -LocalServerRole  Install-SPHelpCollection –All  Initialize-SPResourceSecurity  Install-SPService  Install-SPFeature –AllExistingFeatures  New-SPCentralAdministration -Port -WindowsAuthProvider NTLM  Install-SPApplicationContent https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt346114%28v=office.16%29.aspx
