client profile a functional and successful design must solve problems to help identify those problems, the designer needs to interview the client & develop a client profile

in a residential design, a profile is developed for each of the principal residents who will live in the home

the client profile should provide answers to the following topics: age sex background culture values temperament personality personal habits need for privacy style preferences responses to color an inventory of possessions & furnishings

the answers to these questions can be determined through interviews of the principal users or by means of a questionnaire developed by the designer

what types of questions could we ask that would get at personality? culture? values?

how can the client most effectively communicate their style preferences to us as designers?

How could we see our client’s response to color?

participation activity: Client Profile Development directions: …split into equal sized groups & create a client profile that meets the following criteria: 2-5 principal residents one occupant is a member of a special population …be as detailed as possible—you are going to use these profiles throughout the rest of the semester. …if these were your actual clients, what would you like to know about them in order to design the best possible residence for their needs? …this is SECTION 1 in your client binder
