Who founded the mission, and when was it founded? Founded by: Father Junipero Serra Founded on: June 3, 1770 Mission Number: Two of Twenty- One

Where is this mission located and what is its Indian tribe! This mission is located in the city of Carmelo. It was moved from it’s original spot at Monterey Bay because some of the Indians didn’t like it being so far from where they lived. The Indians that lived at the mission were the Eslenes Indians.

What I think about this mission and what it’s special qualities are! San Carlos Borromeo De Carmelo is very historic and has a lot of memories there. Father Serra is buried there. The Mission has an authentic restoration for the entire church.

What did the mission grow and how was daily life? The Mission grew grapes, wheat, and olives. The Mission raised cattle and sheep.

Was the mission ever damaged? The Mission church was abandoned for thirty years and eventually collapsed. It was fixed in the 1830’s.
