Biology homework if you completed the correct page listed on 11-9-09 but read the wrong section for these questions (3.3)
2
How is the recorder powered? Chemical energy is transformed into electrical energy which is then converted into mechanical energy Energy must change forms to “power” the cassette
3
Light energy from sun was absorbed into the paper and was converted into HEAT HEAT is first activation energy Burning releases energy = EXERGONIC – so the energy released during burning allows the substance to keep burning.
4
Maltose = 2 glucose Sucrose = glucose and fructose Maltase is an enzyme Enzymes have specific structures Enzymes bind like a lock and key to the substrate If maltase if shaped a specific way, it can only fit with maltose and cannot fit together with sucrose because the shapes of the substrate (sugar) is different.
5
Substrate and enzyme collide The enzyme fits to the “active site” The enzyme changes shape somewhat Since the enzyme fits in place, the overall shape changes The NZ (enzyme) lowers the activation energy to allow the reaction to occur The product (new thing) is release from the enzyme
6
Reactions would just occur randomly if there were no Enzymes Cells would have to move nutrients into/through/out of the cell much faster if there was no organized system of events There would potentially be a buildup of products that the body doesn’t need and wastes could also build up if they weren’t shipped out efficiently. Cells would change shape and relationships with each other based on the random nature of chemical reactions occurring or not
