Tuesday December 1 st, 2015 Day 1 Tuesday December 1 st, 2015 Day 1 Science Starters Sheet 1. Please have these Items on your desk. AR Book 2- Science Starter: Two vocabulary words- Chromosomes- A self-replicating body present in the cells of higher plants and animals, especially observable during mitosis. Cell Cycle- Starts with the formation, then the growth and development, and finally death. Each cell has their own cycle, and it goes at it’s own pace. Agenda

Cell Anatomy Cell Parts & their Function
4
What is a Cell? A cell is the smallest unit that is capable of performing life functions. It is the basic unit of living things.
5
Cell Theory All living things are made up of cells. All living things are made up of cells. Cells are the smallest working units of all living things.Cells are the smallest working units of all living things. All cells come from preexisting cells through cell division. All cells come from preexisting cells through cell division.

Examples of Cells Amoeba Proteus Plant Stem Red Blood Cell Nerve Cell Bacteria
7
Cell Organelles Cell Parts are referred to as organelles.Cell Parts are referred to as organelles.
8
Cell Wall Most commonly found in plant cells & bacteria Supports & protects cells Cell Wall
9
Cell Membrane protective layer around all cells allows food and oxygen into the cell and waste products out of the cell. Cell Wall Cell Membrane

Lysosome Used to digest food or break down the cell when it dies.A lysosome is basically a specialized vesicle that holds a variety of enzymes. Used to digest food or break down the cell when it dies.
