2. Beowulf vs. Grendel By Christy Flasher

3. Grendel was a powerful monster who lived in a Hell on Earth.

4. Beowulf was “greater and stronger than anyone anywhere in this world.”

5. Grendel, bearing God’s hatred, came from his swampland to kill the people of Herot.

6. Beowulf and fourteen of his strongest men lie in the halls of Herot waiting to defeat Grendel.

7. Seeing the hall crowded with sleeping warriors, Grendel couldn’t wait to feast on their bodies.

8. The monster grabbed the first warrior that he saw and ripped him apart.

9. Then, Grendel grabbed Beowulf but was instantly seized.

10. “The infamous killer fought for his freedom, wanting no flesh but retreat.”

11. Beowulf and Grendel fought down the hall while Beowulf’s men were standing by.

12. However, Grendel bewitched all the men’s weapons.

13. Grendel twisted in pain as his shoulder snapped and broke.

14. Leaving his arm behind, Grendel fled back to his den.

15. The next morning crowds surrounded Herot to see the monster’s defeated tracks.

16. The people rejoiced, rode their horses to Herot, and told about Beowulf’s victory over Grendel.
