2 Three types of muscle Smooth muscle is an involuntary muscle. Example – digestive system Cardiac muscle is an involuntary muscle found in the heart. Has pronounced striations. Skeletal muscle are voluntary muscles that are used to move bones.

3 Skeletal muscle contraction Muscles are arranged in opposing pairs. Muscle fibers consist on myofibrils. Myofibrils are made of actin and myosin (protein) subunits. A sarcomere is the functional unit of a muscle.

4 How do muscles move? Muscles move by contracting and then relaxing.
