MOTION TEXT WORK
2
HOW DO DISTANCE AND DISPLACEMENT DIFFER? Distance describes how far an object has moved; Displacement includes distance and direction of an object’s change in position from its starting point. 0m 80 m 40m Distance traveled = 120m BUT Displacement is 40 m (Vector/direction needed)

ABOUT 27.4 S WHO WANTS TO SHOW US HOW YOU FOUND YOUR ANSWER? A passenger elevator operates at an average speed of 8 m/s. If the 60 th floor is 219 meters above the first floor, how long does it take the elevator to go from the first floor to the 60 th floor?
4
0.25 HOURS OR 15 MINUTES WHO WANTS TO SHOW US HOW YOU FOUND YOUR ANSWER? A motorcyclist travels an average speed of 20 km/h. If the cyclist is going to a friend’s house 5 km away, how long does it take for the cyclist to make the trip?
5
WHAT ARE TWO EXAMPLES OF MOTION IN WHICH THE INSTANTANEOUS SPEED CHANGES? Possible Answers… Driving a car in town Riding a bicycle
6
HOW ARE VELOCITY AND SPEED DIFFERENT? Velocity includes direction (vector), speed does not.
7
# 3 EXPLAIN WHETHER, DURING A TRIP, A CAR’S INSTANTANEOUS SPEED CAN EVER BE GREATER THAN ITS AVERAGE SPEED? Yes. The instantaneous speed at various times can be greater or less than the average speed. For example, I could drive to CVS from my house at an average speed of 30 mph, but there might be times I travel 35 mph, 40 mph or even less than 30 mph.
8
# 4 DESCRIBE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AVERAGE SPEED AND CONSTANT SPEED? Average speed is the total distance traveled divided by the total time (*Whole trip data) The instantaneous speed can be changing throughout the above “whole trip.” Constant speed, means that the instantaneous speed doesn’t change. For every unit of time that passed, the same amount of distance is traveled.
9
RELATIVE TO THE BUS, YOU MOVE AT YOUR WALKING SPEED. RELATIVE TO THE GROUND YOU MOVE IN THE SAME DIRECTION AS THE BUS WITH A SPEED EQUAL TO THE BUS SPEED MINUS YOUR WALKING SPEED. # 5 You are walking toward the back of a bus that is moving forward with a constant velocity. Describe your motion relative to the bus and relative to a point on the ground.

# 6 MICHIKO WALKED A DISTANCE OF 1.6 KM IN 30 MINUTES. FIND HER AVERAGE SPEED IN M/S. 0.89 m/s Who wants to show us how you found your answer?

# 7 A CAR TRAVELS AT A CONSTANT SPEED OF 30 M/S FOR 0.8 HOURS. FIND A TOTAL DISTANCE TRAVELED IN KM. 86.4 km Who wants to show us how you found your answer?
