2. Statistics  Germany remains one of Europe’s largest growers/exporters of grain.  Despite what many may think, nearly half of Germany is comprised of farmland.

3. Statistics (cont.)   Germany produces 92 thousand metric tons of cereal grains, placing it in the top 30 countries for cereal production.   Germany also uses 228.2 kg/ha of fertilizer annually, which creates more nutrient rich crop yields, as opposed to the U.S. 103.4 kg/ha.

4. International involvement  The BMELV currently works on enforcing the right of food for people across the globe.  By limiting investments, Germany is helping to secure human rights, including those to food and water.

5. International Involvement (cont.)  Germany has contributed over 8.3 million Euros to support food security in the country of Afghanistan.  On top of this, German officials have agreed to work with Afghan authorities to support livestock development.

6. National Involvement  In order to help aid the preservation of food, German scientists have created equipment that acts as a moisture control.

National involvement (cont.)   Germany seeks to implement a project that will help small farmers to enter into business partnerships with agricultural enterprises in Kenya.   German funding will also be aimed at a project improving smallholder systems that integrate food and bioenergy production.
