ICT Interventions Plans and goals needed at Higher Education (UG), Middle & High School, Primary School and Vocational Education levels in areas of 1.Lectures & e-Content 2.Tutorials and Group Discussions 3.Assignments & Evaluation 4.Practice and Lab experiments 5.Peer Learning 6.Administration, Accounts & Record keeping Enablers – ICT infrastructure provision and management – Policies, Regulations, Interventions and norms needed to encourage ICT usage in Education and Pedagogy 2

Implementation Goals Live lectures by experts using quality video on Internet: placing best teachers in front of students – part of main curriculum where rest of course/ tutorials/ Interactions handled by local teachers – Higher Education: 10 lectures in 15 courses in 2 years 15 – 20 lectures on most courses in 5 years – Middle and High School: 10 lectures in 5 courses in 2 years 15 – 20 lectures on all courses in 5 years – Primary School: 5 – 8 lectures in 3 subjects in next two years Interactive e-books: Besides text, each section has videos, animations, images, quiz modules, dictionary, reference links – promote widely at all levels: all core courses to have at least one book in five years – Games and simulations for learning Tutorials and Group Discussions – interactive learning using audio/ video/text chat/ file sharing / white-board like tools – Develop tools and pilot in select colleges and high schools for at least 50% courses Assessment and Evaluation: immediate – Objective/ exact answer: Computer-based automated evaluation – Subjective/long answers: evaluation by a tutor / introduce peer-evaluation 3

Implementation Goals Practices and Experiments – Virtual labs: student to conduct experiments and tests with remote access – Development of Virtual Labs needs acceleration: Identification of suitable tools and R&D required pilots in 100 colleges in next two years; scale over five years Administration and Records – ICT tools mature can be implemented immediately at the level of Higher Education and High & Middle Schools (0-2 years) In 2 – 5 years at Primary School level Infrastructure availability and accessibility for all students and institutions – Availability of Devices (tablets/mobile phones/others) and associated software Aakash for all students of higher learning in about two years, at middle and high school level within five years and primary schools with eight years – Availability of Network Connectivity High speed Internet connectivity for all higher learning institutes in about two years, at middle and high school level within five years and primary schools with eight years 4

Additional Recommendations by TC Enable public-private agencies to build portals for (0 – 2 years) Storage and authenticated transcripts and records of students (all levels including entrance exam performance) Authentic, reliable information on accreditation status of all educational institutions – including prospectus of courses by institutes at different times Information on certification and quality of school/colleges accredited by authorized agencies Repository of all student research thesis and project reports Need public Portals for all kind e-content 5
