A Brief History of Time Presentation done by Cameron Kuntz
2
Some of the background information Written by Stephen Hawking First published in 1988 Has sold over 10 million copies Has been translated into 33 Different languages Considered to be one of the Greatest scientific books of all time
3
How should you read it? This is a simplified version of a science report that covers multiple topics that are prevalent in the field of Quantum Physics. It does not have a set story, plot, climax, etc. It is an explanation of the universe by a genius.
4
The theory of relativity While originally developed by Albert Einstein, this idea was touched upon by Hawking in Chapter 2 of A Brief History of Time. He explains that basically that “all laws of science should be the same for all freely moving observers, no matter the observers viewpoint”. Basically that means that a lightning bolt that hits closer by you will be the same speed as one that hits at the same time farther away, even though it seems the closer to you hit quicker… E=MC^2
5
The Uncertainty Principle In a nutshell: “The speed and the position of a particle cannot be found at the same time”. It was also discussed on how to find the location of a particle.
6
Pauli exclusion principle Similar particles cannot exist in the same space.
7
BLACK HOLES This was easily the coolest part of the book. Hawking explains that black holes are dead stars that have imploded under it’s own gravity. It can suck up everything, even light.http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=TRAYAGuT31ghttp://www.youtube.com/watch? v=TRAYAGuT31g
