Hong Kong Pink Dolphins
By Arpit Panjabi
2
What is happening to them?
Pink Dolphins are a endangered species around the world. Even here in Hong Kong Pink Dolphins are endangered due to boat pollution, sea trash and over fishing.
3
Boat traffic Due to the ocean separating parts of Hong Kong there is a vast majority of boats sailing across the harbour all the time. This is called boat traffic.
4
How do they get affected
Dolphins could easily come in the way of these boats or get hit by a passing propeller causing deep cuts in the dolphins skin.
5
Pollution Pollution can easily kill pink dolphins. Most people in Hong Kong throw their trash in the sea so as a result dolphins think its food swallow it and will eventually die.
6
Habitat Loss As you all should know most of modern Hong Kong is on reclaimed land making ocean space in Hong Kong smaller. As a result of the loss of ocean dolphins are quickly losing their habitat (home) to shopping malls and offices.
7
Conclusion Hong Kong is losing its pink dolphin population quickly. We need to do something to clean up the oceans and welcome back our dolphin population.
8
What can be done? In Hong Kong if your lucky at times you will see little boats netting ( catching ) plastic bottles from the ocean along with candy wrappers. More of these and our dolphin population might come back.
9
What should the government do?
The government should cut down on excessive reclamation. Also the amount of boats in the ocean at a time should be cut down on.
