“Scientists estimate that plastics are killing as many as a million seabirds and over100,000 sea mammals each year. Plastics have been found in the stomachs of manatees, fish, birds, dolphins a nd whales. Leatherback turtles frequently mistak e plastic bagsfloating in the sea for one of their favorite foods, jellyfish. As these plastics accum ulate intheir intestines, the animals slowly starv e” (LeBeau).

“The oceans play an important role in regulating the Earth's temperature. As the levels of carbon dioxide and heat rise in the atmosphere, so do their levels in the oceans” (oceana.org). This will result in ocean acidification.
9
“Ocean acidification is a global environmental issue caused by the man-made release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Ocean acidification is often called the "evil twin" to climate change, because both issues are rooted in carbon dioxide emissions” (oceana.org).
11
“Could ocean acidification deafen dolphins?” (Winner). The ocean has become more and more acidic since the start of the Industrial Revolution. What effect will this have on marine mammals such as dolphins and whales?
