Here it is… Bob wants to have a party. He estimates that you need one family size bag of potato chips to feed ten guests. If one family size bag of potato chips costs $5, how much money would he have to spend to buy chips if up to sixty guests came to the party?
3
The Equation The equation for my problem is…. Y= 5(x)/10 or f(x)= 5(x)/10 x= the number of guests y= how much it costs to buy enough chips
4
Independent Variable My independent variable is my x which is the number of party guests. My dependent variable is my x which is the cost of the chips. We know that y depends on x. So the cost of the chips DEPENDS on the number of guests.
5
Table of Values x 5x/10 y (x,y) 10 5(10)/10 5 (10,5) 20 5(20)/10 10 (20,10) 30 5(30)/10 15 (30,15) 40 5(40)/10 20 (40,20) 50 5(50)/10 25 (50, 25) 60 5(60)/10 30 (60,30)
6
Domain and Range Domain is the x values, and the Range is the y values. The Domain for this real world problem is D:{10,20,30,40,50,60} The Range for this real world problem is R:{5,10,15,20,25,30}
7
Is it Continuous or Discrete? Since the data doesn’t have a point in both the negative quadrant and doesn’t go on for an infinite amount positive and negative, it is discrete.
8
Is it a function? A function is where there is one independent value paired with only one dependent value. This means that the x values CANNOT repeat. This problem is a function because the x values don’t repeat.

The answer? Depending on how many people came to Bob’s party, he would have to guy as little as $5 of chips to up to $30 of chips.
