Format Topics presented in two week units –Mathematics –advanced topics linked to topics taught in middle school –Education –standards based curriculum, classroom based research, and internet and technology resources Online class sessions, synchronous or asynchronous Live virtual office hours and chats

Pre-requisite: Certified middle school teacher with either multi-subject or math certification, minimum of 6-9 hours of math or math education.

ACT Paradigm: –Active Assignment –Conceptual Class session –Talk Together about session

ACT Paradigm: –ASSIGNMENT Active reading involves: Focus questions for the reading that will stress key concepts and skills to be mastered. Focus problems assigned to assess conceptual understanding and skill acquisition. A quiz over skills and concepts will be posted on Vista WebCT. The Quiz must be completed by the following Friday. A forum will be established on Vista WebCT for discussion about the focus questions.

ACT Paradigm: –CLASS SESSION (Math 2 contact hours, C&I 1 contact hour): Teachers can attend the session live via Connect or can watch the recorded session.

ACT Paradigm: TALK TOGETHER: about Discussion Session (1 contact hour): On Thursday evening a synchronous (live) session will be held which all participants must attend. The focus of this session will be discussion of the readings and review of questions over Monday’s class session.
