3 Teaching Methods

4 Explain the electrical charges within the body (the resting membrane potential- the action potential- propagation of nerve impulses through different nerve fibres) and treatment principles associated with electrotherapy -for pain control, muscle spasm and tissue healing. Differentiate between modalities of electrical stimulation (low or medium frequency currents) and between types of current used therapeutically (direct current and iontophoresis, interrupted direct current-long and short duration- evenly alternating current). Recognize physiological basis of different stimulation currents on tissues and safety measures with electrical currents and treatment of current shock Identify principles of application of different stimulation currents and when modifications are needed to the treatment plan (for electrotherapy use). Demonstrate safety measures with electrical currents and treatment of current shock and the ability to work competently with electrotherapy (as determined by course instructor or clinical trainer) - includes safe and appropriate administration of electrotherapy. and use of electrical changes in evaluation and diagnosis (EMG and SDC- technique and interpretation- EMG biofeedback
