Using LCM and GCF to solve word problems Planner Notes Finish LCM & GCF word problems Bellwork: Do evens off the LCM Notes page…Example 1

Real Life Problem We are making trick or treat bags. You have 18 lollipops, 12 tootsie rolls, and 6 red vines. What is the largest amount of bags you can make with an even amount in each bag. How many of each candy is in each bag?

Set up interactive notebook… write warm up problem on page 2-7

GCF Word Problems Greatest Common Factor Steps 1. Get prime factorization 2. Circle common prime #’s 3. Multiply common primes 4. What is NOT circled is the amount of each in the group 18 lollipops, 12 tootsie rolls, 6 red vines 18=2x3x3 12=2x2x3 6=2x3 GCF is the multiplication of the common primes. 2x3=6 bags What is not circled (highlighted here) is how many of each type of candy in each bag. So each bag has 3 lollipops, 2 tootsie rolls, and 1 red vine (since 1 is the only other factor other than prime). Toolbox: Prime – can only be divided by itself and one. Common- same # in all sets Factor – one of 2 or more numbers that multiply to get a product. Exit Question: #1 or #4 on homework page (

Homework Finish both worksheets (LCM and GCF) word problems. Extra Credit on GCF practice #1-6.
