http://www.hefce.ac.uk/rsrch/oa/Policy/ For submission to the next REF HEFCE (on behalf of HEFCW) require all journal outputs including conference proceedings published in journals, accepted for publication from 1 st April 2016, to be: -Green OA -Deposited in repository within 3 months of acceptance (i.e. a record created in PURE with a post-print attached). Who requires OA?
4
The date of acceptance is the point at which the author is notified that: their output has been reviewed by the journal or conference (normally via peer review) all academically necessary changes have been made in response to that review the article is ready to be taken through the final steps toward publication (normally copy- editing and typesetting). What is the date of acceptance?
5
The author’s final, accepted manuscript that has been agreed with the editor at that point. The accepted manuscript is not the same as the copy-edited, typeset or published paper – these versions are known as ‘proofs’ or ‘versions of record’ and publishers do not normally allow authors to make these available on open-access. What is the post print?

Route to OA: PURE submission On Acceptance On Publication On Verification Create an output record in PURE (pure.aber.ac.uk) adding a post-print version of the item and including any details of any associated embargo period.pure.aber.ac.uk IS will update the record with final details of the output, add a publisher’s copy of the item (where permissible), with the appropriate embargo period set, and verify the record. Output records will be transferred automatically to CADAIR (http://cadair.aber.ac.uk/dspace/), the University’s institutional repository.http://cadair.aber.ac.uk/dspace/
7
The relevant full-text version of the output (pre-print, post-print, publisher’s PDF) will not be made publically available until any embargo period has completed. Route to OA: PURE submission (2)

Embargo periods Embargo periods set by publishers to protect their exclusive access to the research. Maximum embargoes allowed by HEFCE policy on post-print: -STEM (Panels A&B)= 12months; -Arts & SSH (Panels C&D)= 24 months.
