What is Tobacco? 1. Tobacco is a product prepared from leaves of the tobacco plant.

Types of Tobacco. 2. Cigarettes 3. Chewing Tobacco 4. Cigars 5. Hookah ALL TOBACCO PRODUCTS HAVE DANGEROUS CHEMICALS

Nicotine 6. Nicotine is the addictive drug found in all tobacco products. 7. At low doses can be a mild stimulant & muscle relaxant. 8. At high doses, it is a powerful nerve poison. 9. 60 mg of nicotine is enough to kill a person, 1-2 mg are inhaled when a cigarette is smoked.

Other Chemicals 10. There are over 4,000 chemicals in cigarette smoke. 11. At least 40 chemicals are carcinogens (chemicals or agents that cause cancer). 12. Tar is a sticky black substance in tobacco smoke that coats the airways

Other Chemicals 13. Cyanide – Poisonous gas used to develop photographs 14. Formaldehyde – Used as an embalming fluid (preserving dead bodies) 15. Carbon monoxide – blocks oxygen from getting into blood stream

Chewing Tobacco 15. 2-3 times more nicotine than cigarettes. 16. Contain many of the same carcinogens.
