2 Let’s Get Acquainted! Find the person in the room who has the same playing card as you. Introduce yourself and share the funniest thing that has happened to you as a teacher. Be prepared to introduce your person to the group along with their story.

3 Road Map for the Day Management Concerns Body of a New Teacher Teaching Reading Break Out Sessions

4 Group Norms Start and end on time Put cell phones on silent Be respectful of all comments Everyone participates Exercise the rule of “two feet” Come prepared for the meeting

6 Pre-Survey On an index card, please answer the following question: What do you hope to get from these 6 meetings? Place in the middle of your table when finished.

7 Management Concerns On your own, brainstorm a list of concerns for the following categories: –Student Behavior –Student Time –Teacher Time Share your concerns with your table, create a master chart and post.

8 Gallery Walk As you look at the charts, note similarities. From the walk, create a master list of 3-5 problems for each category with your table group. Share 1 strategy that you have used successfully with any of these concerns.

9 Body of a New Teacher Using the hand-out, answer each question based on your experience. Next, form subject specific groups of 2-3. Discuss your individual ideas and create a “Body” chart representing the group.

11 Teaching Reading In Science & Math Complete the pre- reading guide. In the section, “The Role of Text Features”, read the sub-section “Text Features: Vocabulary” Complete the reading guide as you read.

12 For Next Time Read the Frayer Model strategy and decide how you would like to use this with your students. At the next meeting, bring some student samples and be prepared to share pros and cons of this strategy.

13 What’s My Number? Ask yes/no questions in order to help you identify your unknown number. You may only ask 1 question PER person. After you ask a question, record the question and answer. Once you have identified your number, please have a seat.
