Overview of Assignment Blueprint Player Roles Equipment Names/Terminologies Field/Environment Rules/Guidelines/Violations Video Footage Diagrams of Strategies

Blueprint Designing a blueprint for your game includes: – Addressing what elements you will pull from existing games/sports – Establishing an overall goal for the game Team Handball Example How unique will your game be? – Remember, change a sport enough so that it is unique!

Player Roles You will need to evaluate the following for your game: – How many players there will be on a team. – Differentiate player roles within the team. – Distinguish leadership roles from support roles. – How many teams will be a part of the game (some games have more than 2 teams at a time competing) Think: – Select a game that has multiple player roles and briefly summarize the roles.

Equipment What pieces of equipment will you need for your game? Judge the significance of the equipment. – Modifications/Alternatives you can make if the equipment is not available for use? – Ex. Disc golf, Soccer,Flag Football Tchoukball Net: – Expensive yet vital and unique part of Tchoukball

Names/Terminologies Construct a clever or logical name for your game. What about terminologies of player positions, equipments, rule violations, plays, etc.?

Field/Environment Arrange your field. – What kind? Grass, Blacktop, Gymnasium, Pool, etc.? Does it matter? – How large? – How will Boundaries be marked? – Different sections within field? Purposes? – How long does the game last? – Are there any breaks in time?

Rules/Guidelines/Violations Are you going to have many rules to your game? Or will it have just a few rules? Or will it have more of “guidelines” rather than rules (Think: Ultimate Frisbee fouls) Ultimate Frisbee is a great example of a game with relatively few rules and many guidelines, hence the “Spirit of the Game” terminology for the sport. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsiycoAv tjE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsiycoAv tjE

Rules/Guidelines/Violations Hypothesize what rules to add for safety. Think – Compare and contrast rules that are either established for safety, or heighten the likelihood of injury, within a sport of your choosing!

Rules/Guidelines/Violations

Skill Demonstration / Analysis You will be including demonstrations of the important skills within your game. Also, you will analyze the correct critical elements for the skills. Maybe your skill is one that is common – kicking a ball. Or … maybe your skill is invented by you! Breakdown the skill into parts and explain significance of each part.

Skill Demonstration / Analysis This is an example of the lacrosse throw skill analysis along with demonstrations:

Diagramming Strategies Offensive and Defensive strategies are found in almost every game. You will be diagramming effective offensive/defensive strategies for your created game along with ineffective ones. Assess how spin, rotation, or rebound come into effect? Think: – Can you diagram some strategies in a sport we’ve covered so far this year?
