Earth is the 3rd planet from the sun. The Earth was formed around 4.54 billion years ago.Earth is not named after a god. The other seven planets in our solar system are all named after Roman gods or goddesses. Only Mercury, Venuns Mars, Jupiter and Saturn were named during ancient times. Because they were visible to the naked eye., the Roman named planets after god or goddesses. sun.

The sun is a star in the centre of the solar system. It is responsible for our climate and weather. It is sphere [almost] made of hot plasma. It is the most important source of energy for nature.

This planet is the smallest and closest to the sun. It is not easily seen except during twilight. It looks like the moon.

It is the second planet to the sun. Venus is named after a roman goddesses [of love and beauty]. Venus is the second biggest terrestrial planet. Venus

This is the fourth planet from the Sun. Mars [named after the Roman god of war] is sometime called the “Red Planet” because of its reddish appearance. Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere composed primarily of carbon dioxide

Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun. It is two and a half times more bigger than all the other planets in the solar system combined. It is mostly made of gases and is therefore known as a “gas giant ”.

It is the sixth planet from the Sun. It is the most distant that can be seen with the naked eye. It is best known for its fabulous ring system. That was discovered in 1610 by the astronomer Galileo Galilei.

The moon looks small but it would take 4 days to drive all the around it On Venus the air is poisonous The surface of dwarf planet Pluto is frozen like a huge skating rink. Jupiter has more than 40 moons Saturn will take seven years of a spacecraft to reach it Most of the moon craters are so big that whole cities could fit in them.
